The Playground Project- encouraging our value Whanaungatanga (growing connections)
This week we have launched 'The Playground Project' which is designed to encourage the children to play with a wide range of different children from within our studio. Each child has a booklet with their own individual coloured spot. They get to collect a spot (and give out one of their own spots) when they have played a game or sat and had lunch with someone different. Hopefully by the end of the term the children will each have a rainbow of spots. It's been wonderful to see the children playing with different children in the studio.
Te Whare Tapa Whā- looking after our wellbeing
This week we have been exploring with the children the wellbeing concept of Te Whare Tapa Whā. The children have helped decorate their T group's whare with the 4 pillars that make up Te Whare Tapa Whā:
Taha tinana (Physical wellbeing),
The children did a great job working together using the app Book Creator to show ways they can keep their bodies healthy.
Taha wairua (Spiritual wellbeing),
The children thought of different ways they could look after their spiritual wellbeing
Taha hinengaro (mental and emotional wellbeing)
The children did a brainstorm of the things that make them happy and chose one to publish on the whare.
Taha whānau (Family and social).
In the photo frames, the children drew people who are special to them.
We talked about what would happen if one of the walls of our whare was missing. The children understood that to be happy and healthy we all need to focus on all 4 parts of wellbeing.

How full is your battery? Building whanaungatanga...
For our school value, whanaungatanga, we have been looking at how we can feel different emotions during the day. We have used the idea of a battery to help show how we feel. When our battery is low we may feel sad or lonely. When our battery is full we may feel happy, excited or focused. Each T group has a battery where children can show how they are feeling using their coloured dot.
We looked at the relationship map and discussed why some children's batteries were low. We also talked about how we could help make people's batteries get charged to full again.
