Our mural is nearly finished

At the beginning of the term, the children visited Muir Park to get ideas for our
mural design. The key themes we wanted our mural to include were:
  • to build awareness of the longfin eel/tuna that live in our local stream
  • to promote our new school value Kaitiakitanga
  • to build Whanaungatanga about what is special about being in Huritini
  • to acknowledge that Te Tauawa a Maka (Nottingham Stream) is an important part of our cultural narrative.
The children all designed what they thought a panel of the mural should look like.

Then our art leaders, Tasmyn and Felix, took the children's designs and incorporated them into the final piece.

We are nearly ready to put it up on the fence.

A fun morning in Tī Kōuka creating...

We loved our upcycling this morning, getting ready for our art show.

We were busy making fabric bowls and painting our bottle flowers and paper mache creations in the creative room.

CD weaving and making dream catchers were also popular.

We were grateful for all the help from the year 7 and 8 children and our amazing parent and grandparent helpers.

Some children were busy outside nailing holes in bottle tops which they then made into wind chimes.

It was fantastic to see all our school values being shown so well by the children.

A sneak peak at our mural..

Our mural is starting to take shape!

Our Art Leaders have been busy working with us to help create our mural. They have used all our mural ideas and come up with a final design. Now we are putting it all together.

We have been helping with the painting too!

All 140 children in Huritini added their handprints to the kaitiaki board.

We are having fun painting our tree designs.

We love working alongside our Art leaders!

Getting ready for the art show

On Wednesday, we had fun doing lots of different art activities for our upcoming art show. We are trying to upcycle different materials to make our playground look colourful and fun.

We also were completing our wooden shapes for the mural.

Wheels and Water Day

We had so much fun celebrating the end of the year with our wheels and water day. Check out the photos below!
